Herb Pianin – General Manager Herb began his Hotel Career after graduating with a degree
in Hotel and Restaurant Administration with the Loews Drake Hotel in New York
City as their Reservations Manager. He then moved on to the famed L'Enafant
Plaza Hotel in Washington D.C. where he accepted the position as Resident
Manager.
Longing for a warmer climate, a wonderful
opportunity presented itself in South Florida with Sonesta Hotels. Herb accepted
the position of Executive Assistant Manager at The Sonesta Beach Resort and
Tennis Club on Key Biscayne. After two years, he was recruited by the 1000 room
Boca Raton Resort and Club as their Rooms Division Manager. A promotion came his
way and he was promoted to their Director of Quality Control and Yield
Management. After 12 years at Boca, Herb decided to branch out on his own to
take on consulting.
The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach
hired Herb as a consultant, where his challenge was to help them regain their
coveted 5 Star 5 Diamond status. After only 4 short years, and the job
successfully completed, The Fisher Island Club, located on one of Miami's most
exclusive Islands, called on Herb to manage their Boutique Hotel. Four years
quickly went by, but the commute back and forth to Miami got longer and the time
for a change beckoned. It was time for a change of pace…. It was time for The
Grand Resort and Spa.
The Grand Resort and Spa has
provided a fun, challenging and rewarding atmosphere- a place to look forward to
coming to each and every day. A valued asset to our property, Herb looks forward
to making your vacation destination one to remember.
Peter Mehas - Guest Services Manager
Peter, a native of Hamilton, Ohio, has been a resident of South Florida since 1986. A 1980 graduate of Transylvania University
in Lexington, Kentucky with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, he has concentrated most of his career in the hotel
industry, first with Sheraton then with Holiday Inn Hotels.
When he decided to make the move to Ft. Lauderdale in 1986 (and subsequently to South Beach), he landed a position with the newly
opened Hotel InterContinental Miami as Front Office Manager. After then serving as Reservations Manager and Guest Services Manager,
he continued honing his hotel expertise as Director of Reservations at the famous Doral Golf Resort and Spa.
The Hotel Sofitel Miami was Peter's next property when he was chosen as Director of Business Development. But the Doral was not
finished with him yet. After a year's absence, Doral management called on him to return as Director of Front Office Operations.
Needing a respite from the pressures of large hotels, Peter decided to take a few years off from the hotel industry and return to
Ft. Lauderdale.
In October 2004, the Grand Resort and Spa offered him a return to the industry that is his passion, and that he had missed for seven years.
"For me, the greatest rewards in the hotel industry come from the smiles and laughter of our guests having a good time. And the only
way for this to happen is to anticipate and exceed their expectations, both in service and accommodations."
